What is Bow Poi?

Bow Poi is a development from the original contact poi invented by Ronan McLoughlin. Coming from a juggling background Bow felt the need to develop a design that would suit traditional poi tricks as well as more innovative tricks involving throws, ball and rope manipulation.

With this set Bow managed to achieve most of the current world record in poi juggling as well as developing a unique style of poi manipulation.

The weight ratio between the knob, rope and ball provides for stability and overal light poi for peak performance.  The lightness of the set is the result of using lightest and most durable stage balls on the market. The Bow Poi is made with the static rope carefully selected by Bow. It is the result of many years of researching the best rope on the market.

Choosing the perfect size for you

We measure our Bow Poi from the head bottom to the handle top. Here are basic recommendations to help you choose:

Be aware of rope shrinkage

Despite being the static rope with the least shrinkage percentage on the market your poi are still going to shrink by up to 2 cm depending on the length of the poi. All ropes shrink eventually. It is due absorption of humidity and other elements.

How it happens:

If you really need a certain poi length be aware of your prop usage and we recommend getting poi that is 2 cm longer than desired so it will shrink to your ideal length.

Bow tip: too long is better than too short. You can easily shorten the rope when needed. If so contact us for the manual how to shorten your poi set.

Bow Poi sizes are measured from the head bottom to the handle top. Here’s a quick guide:

  • 60-65 CM: Ideal for beginners and those transitioning from club juggling.

  • 65-70 CM: Recommended for experienced poi jugglers for proper form.

  • 70-72 CM: Optimal for professional jugglers, especially for juggling 4+ poi and enhanced visual impact.

Choose based on your skill level and juggling preferences. If in doubt, a slightly longer length is recommended to account for potential rope shrinkage.

For beginners, we recommend starting with Bow Poi in the 60-65 cm range. This size is well-suited for those new to poi juggling and provides an excellent foundation for learning essential tricks. If you’re transitioning from club juggling, choosing a length within the 60-62 cm range is a great starting point. As you become more comfortable with poi, you can explore different sizes based on your preferences and skill level.

For experienced poi jugglers looking to optimize their performance and form, we recommend selecting Bow Poi in the 65-70 CM range. This size is considered standard and is recommended by Bow for achieving proper form and executing advanced poi techniques. The balance and characteristics of this size make it well-suited for jugglers with experience who are seeking precision and versatility in their performances.

Absolutely! Bow Poi is designed to cater to all skill levels. The 60-65 CM range is especially suited for beginners and those transitioning from club juggling. The balance and performance features make it an excellent choice for those starting their poi journey. As you progress, the versatility of Bow Poi will continue to support your skill development.

Yes, Bow Poi is suitable for outdoor use. The durable materials and meticulous design make it resilient to various conditions. Whether you’re practicing in open spaces or performing outdoors, Bow Poi can handle the elements. However, to maintain longevity, it’s advised not to store them outside to prevent unnecessary exposure to humidity and other elements that could impact rope shrinkage.

Maintaining your Bow Poi is simple:

  1. Avoid Water Exposure: Minimize water contact, especially with sea water, to prevent accelerated shrinkage.

  2. Store Indoors: Keep your poi indoors to avoid dew and humidity, which can speed up rope shrinkage.

  3. Clean Sweaty Hands: If your hands tend to sweat, consider wiping down the poi to reduce the impact on shrinkage.

  4. Regular Check-ups: Periodically inspect your Bow Poi for any signs of wear or damage.

Remember, a little care goes a long way in preserving the quality and performance of your Bow Poi.

Bow Poi ropes may experience shrinkage, a natural occurrence due to various environmental factors. Despite being crafted with the static rope featuring the least shrinkage percentage on the market, factors such as humidity absorption, water exposure (especially sea water), dew, and even sweaty hands can contribute to this shrinkage.

It’s essential to be aware that different regions with varying humidity levels can influence the speed of shrinkage. If maintaining a specific poi length is crucial for you, we recommend choosing a length approximately 2 cm longer than desired. This accounts for potential shrinkage, ensuring your Bow Poi will eventually reach your ideal length. Remember, in the event that you need a specific length, it’s easier to shorten the rope as needed. If required, don’t hesitate to contact us for guidance on manual shortening of your poi set. Bow’s tip: when in doubt, it’s better to start with a length slightly longer than needed.

While Bow Poi’s static rope boasts the least shrinkage percentage on the market, anticipate up to 2 cm of shrinkage depending on the length of the poi. Shrinkage is a natural process influenced by factors like humidity, water exposure (especially in sea water), dew, and even sweaty hands. It’s essential to be aware of these elements’ potential impact on your poi’s length.

For precise control over your poi’s final length, we recommend selecting a length that is approximately 2 cm longer than your desired size. This accounts for potential shrinkage, ensuring your Bow Poi will eventually settle at your preferred length.

While some shrinkage is natural, you can take steps to minimize its impact on your Bow Poi:

  1. Limited Water Exposure: Avoid prolonged exposure to water, especially sea water, as it can accelerate shrinkage.

  2. Indoor Storage: Store your poi indoors to prevent exposure to dew and humidity, which can speed up shrinkage.

  3. Dry Hands: If you tend to have sweaty hands, consider wiping down your Bow Poi after use to reduce the impact on regions that encounter frequent contact.

  4. Choose a Slightly Longer Length: If maintaining a specific length is crucial, select a length approximately 2 cm longer than your desired size. This compensates for potential shrinkage.

By following these tips, you can preserve the quality and length of your Bow Poi and enjoy optimal performance over time.

If you require a specific poi length, here’s a guideline to ensure you get the desired size despite potential shrinkage:

  1. Choose a Longer Length: Opt for a poi length that is approximately 2 cm longer than your exact desired size.

  2. Consider Shrinkage Factors: Recognize that factors like humidity, water exposure, dew, and sweat can contribute to shrinkage.

  3. Achieve Desired Length Over Time: By starting with a slightly longer length, you allow for any natural shrinkage, ensuring your Bow Poi will eventually settle at your ideal length.

This approach gives you greater control over the final length of your Bow Poi, providing the precision you need for your juggling preferences.
